25-year-old man stabbed to death over girlfriend in Delta

Man, 21, docked for allegedly stabbing co-tenant
A twenty-five year-old man, Matthew Iyede, has been reportedly stabbed to death by three friends during squabble over a girlfriend at Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident occured Sunday morning at a popular drinking joint, Blue Sea Restaurant and Bar, in Eku, near Delta State University Abraka.

Iyede died on the spot as a result of the injuries he sustained from the multiple stabs on his chest, Punch is reporting.
The victim was allegedly ambushed by armed youths said to have been led by one Ese Uku. Ese had earlier warned the victim to steer clear of the girl, whom the deceased had reportedly been dating for a long time.
The victim’s relative, Victor Iyede, who confirmed the incident, claimed that his brother was killed over a girl he had been dating.
Victor said, “Matthew was stabbed at a plaza closer to Eku Town hall. He was stabbed over a girl. Those involved are at large. Their names have been submitted to the police.”
The spokesman of the Delta State Police Commander, SP Celestina Kalu, while confirming the incident, said two of the suspects had since been arrested by the police in Abraka.
“The vigilante group, in collaboration with the Police, arrested two suspects in respect of the case. The names of the suspects are Kevwe Edward (21 years old) and Lucky Grant (19 years old). The suspects will be transferred to SCIIDC for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution,” Kalu said.
She added that Matthew’s corpse has been deposited at the Eku General hospital pending further investigation by the police.
In another development, a young man identified as Ohoh Iriferi, has allegedly assaulted and bitten off an 85-year-old woman’s finger in Eku, Delta state.
